1. Make a plan
It’s a good idea to make a list of things you need to do, focusing on what you need to do today. If you have a huge to do list it can seem overwhelming. Go ahead and write out your list with everything on your mind and then narrow it down to what you want to do today. You might have 20 items on your list, but even picking 5 things that your sure to get done will make you feel accomplished rather than failing at doing all 20. And if you finish the 5 quickly, you can always add a few more things to the list!

2. Schedule your time
Another tip is to give yourself time blocks. They are a good guide to help you throughout the day. Add in all the things you have to do and the fun stuff you want to do. If you don’t stick to it exactly that’s fine, life happens, but this can help you to feel like your making the most of your day off.
For example: 10 to 11 – clean house, 11 to 1 – run errands, 1 to 2 – meet up with Kim for lunch, 2 to 3 – gym time, 3 to 4 – grocery store, 4 to 5 – cook dinner, 5 to 8 – family time, 8 to 9 – bed time for kids, 9 – 11 Me time.

3. Get important things done early
If you have some important errands to run on your list, make sure to tackle those first. That way you can get them out of the way and don’t have to worry if you get caught up doing something else later. And you’ll feel like you at least got something done.

4. Relax a bit
Yes, relax. Take some time during your day for yourself. Maybe first thing in the morning you relax with a cup of coffee and read a little bit. Maybe you take a nap in the middle of the day? Or you could even wait until the end of the day when all the kids are sleeping to pour a glass of wine and watch a movie. Just make sure to give yourself some time to relax. It is your day off after all.
