Recently, I had a conversation with a friend about our struggles at work and he gave me some good advice, “Just go in each day and do your best, that’s all you can do”. He’s right, all each of us can do is give our best each and everyday. Are you giving your best each day? Or are you slacking off? Here are 7 ways that you can give your best each and everyday.
1. Be on time
No matter if you’re going to work, school or an event, be on time. Heck, be a bit early. By doing so you won’t have to rush and if something comes along like a slow truck or no parking, it won’t be a big deal. If you get there early, you’ll have time to get your stuff together, find a good seat or maybe even just play a game on your phone. Being early is better than being late.
2. Be present
When you are on the clock at work, be fully present in your work. Don’t be on your phone watching Youtube or texting your friends. Actually be present in the work that you are doing. If you are in class, pay attention to what the teacher is saying. You get breaks and that’s when you can do whatever you want. Respond to your messages and check your Facebook on your breaks, not while you are supposed to be doing something else.
3. Take care of your health
Eat well so that you will feel good. Start your day off with the fuel you need. Eat breakfast so you don’t end up hungry mid morning and you’ll be able to focus on what you’re doing. Eat a nutritious lunch that will give you the energy you need to finish the day instead of something greasy and full of sugar and sodium, that will weigh you down and make you feel tired afterwards. Make sure you are getting all the vitamin and minerals your body needs even if that means taking a multi-vitamin or changing your diet.
Also make time for regular doctors visits. And don’t forget the value of self care and making time for yourself and to just relax.
4. Spend time on your appearance
It’s not vain to want to look your best. It becomes vain when think you are better than others or you are constantly thinking about yourself and your appearance.
Looking your best actually increases your confidence and will help you to do your best. When you look good it helps you to feel good. People might give you compliments. You might get a smile from a cutie. Or just knowing that your hair isn’t a mess and you smell good might be enough to make you feel more confident.
5. Focus on what you’re good at
Everyone has strengths and things are they really good at. What are yours? Focus more on that and excel in those areas. The things you are good at are easy for you and usually fun. You can breeze through those things and do them well. If you have a job or a class that focuses on what you are good at, make sure to do each item as best you can. If it’s something you enjoy and you are lucky enough to get paid for it or to learn about it, then focus your energy into it and you will see results.
6. Don’t ignore what you need to work on
On the flip side, if there are areas that are challenging for you, don’t ignore those. How can you improve and get better? Especially at work or school, there will be things you don’t want to do or classes that are just really difficult, but you still have to do these things and you still have to do your best at them.
7. Go above and beyond
Doing your best means doing more than expected. Bring snacks to treat others. Throw in an extra free sample for a customer. Do the extra credit assignment. There are so many ways to go above and beyond the basic. If you just go to work and do your job and leave, that’s not doing your best, that’s doing the bare minimum and not really giving it your all. When you give your all people can tell and it will show.
